About the song

A Nobler Portion

A Nobler Portion contrasts the weight of earthly wealth with the hope found in God. Its lyrics take the form of a prayer: surrendering temporary treasures and fixing hope on Him alone. The song gives words to worship that values God’s presence above what we can possess.

Words of worship

Lyric excerpt

All the wealth we try to find
It’s a heavy empty burden that we have to leave behind
Oh, let a nobler portion be mine, my God
I bow before Your throne
All earthly treasures I resign
And fix my hope on You alone
Yes, I fix my hope on You alone
